Why ABC News Reported on the Congressional Doctor's Office

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: There is an amazing report on ABC News, and I alluded to it mere moments ago. The health care coverage that members of Congress get. And everybody has asked the question: "Hey, you guys in Congress, are going to sign you and your family up for the same rotten deal that you're imposing on us?" And of course they're all saying, "Oh, no. We can't. We have a special, different plan." Some are lying and saying, "Yes, I'll be the first to do it." Obama says, "Well, I can't. You know, I got my own doctor running around, and I -- I -- I -- I don't think anybody can get the health care I get." Well, nobody's going to get the kind of health care members of Congress get. Timothy Johnson, who is the medical doctor, director at ABC News had this report on Good Morning America today, accompanied by a full text report of it on their website.

And I think people are misunderstanding this. The ABC headline: "Special Health Care for Congress: Lawmakers' Health Care Perks -- Little Known Office on Capitol Hill Provides Quality Medical Care for Low Price," and a lot of people are saying, "Ah, this is ABC blowing the whistle on Congress." It is no such thing. It is Tim Johnson -- who loves the concept of government, period; loves the concept of government-run health care; it's Tim Johnson -- trying to say, "This is what's coming your way! This is the kind of health care that awaits us all," under the guise of exposing it in Congress. We have a montage here of his report. Anybody know about this? When Obama says he's going to give everybody the same health care as Congress gets, is this what he's talking about? Listen.

JOHNSON: Right in the US Capitol at a little known and rarely discussed clinic called the Office of the Attending Physician. For a flat $503 yearly fee members of Congress have access to almost all of the primary care they could ever need right behind this door, from exams and EKGs to x-rays and minor surgeries, all provided by Navy doctors and nurses. If a particular specialist is needed one will be brought to the Capitol. All of this for no additional charge. We wanted to talk to the attending physician on camera about the services, but our repeated requests were denied and when we tried to visit the office we were asked to leave. Dr. Eduardo Balbona is now in private practice, but he spent two years as a staff physician at the office.

BALBONA: Customer service is excellent. A member walks in and generally walks right back into a physician's office. They are not rushed. They are examined thoroughly. Any test that is helpful is done.

JOHNSON: I'm sitting here thinking if you're going to introduce this bill for the federal health plan, why not throw in something like this office. That is, provide primary care? If Congress can have those kinds of things, why can't we?

BALBONA: It's not a political perk. Much like a medic who's in combat, it's not a perk to those soldiers. It's part of the mission.

RUSH: "It's part of the mission." These holier-than-thou, arrogant, condescending elitists think that they are on a mission. They have structured health care for themselves. By the way, there's also a pharmacy. There's a pharmacy in the US Capitol, in the Office of the Attending Physician. You walk in there if you need a prescription filled and they do it. House bank, House post office, House doctor -- for $500 a year! "Need a specialist? Bring him in! No additional charge. Need a test? No additional charge. We'll do it," and did you catch Johnson's question? "Why not throw this in the bill that you're planning for everybody else?" "Oh, no, no, can't do that! This is not a perk." Not a perk? Members of Congress, we're being asked to believe that somebody set this up for them because it's important that they continue to work each and every day?

They set it up themselves. They set up every law in this country. They set up their own Office of the Attending Physician, they determine who staffs it. They determine how much is budgeted for it. They determine how much they pay for it. So while they are on the way to enslaving us to a health care system that will turn every medical decision you have about yourself and your kids over to dealing with some faceless bureaucrat miles away, these same people have Cadillac, Mercedes, whatever you want to call it health care coverage, for essentially $500. This does not include the already generous health care plan they have for when they're not in the Capitol. They can choose from 11 different insurance options and so forth -- and it's all paid for by, of course, us. So while they're planning this big national takeover of the health care plan -- single payer, government public option -- all this to bring down costs, all this to improve your care, all of this to reduce fraud and waste in government, all of this to reduce the federal deficit.

I have never had my intelligence insulted like it's been insulted with this entire health care debate. The stimulus debate was almost as insulting, the idea that it's gonna stimulate the economy. There's nobody with half an economic brain who ever believed that. Because it's not about stimulating the economy, and this health care reform is not about improving your health care. It's about enslaving you. This is what Democrats want. This is who they are. They don't like the Constitution. They don't like the concepts of freedom and liberty, private property rights. They look at the private sector as nothing other than an entity that provides them the money they need to rule. Sadly, these people now control every branch of the government, and they're adding 63 new federal judgeships that they will populate with people just like themselves who -- down the road in any further dispute, legally, over whatever legislation passes, their buddies -- will side on the side and in favor of the government.

Folks, it's being taken away from us right before our very eyes. Under false premise. Under the guise of compassion. It's being done despite the knowledge of everybody on Capitol Hill that we don't want it. The numbers supporting it plummet each time a poll is taken. This is nothing more than a scheme against the American people. The concept of a representative republic or democracy is being shattered before our very eyes, and we're being told that the people running the country have great compassion. They care for us. They have nor compassion and more concern for us than evil, rascally Republicans have ever had. Here's Chuck Schumer. This is last night on MSNBC. Question: "Is there hope..." Is there hope! This is Chris Matthews. (sobbing) Is there hope? Oh, God! Oh, God, is there hope? "Is there hope for the public option?"

SCHUMER: Oh, yeah. I believe there is. If you followed this closely, we said all along we never expected to win in Finance Committee. In fact, there were some who were saying, "We're going to get so few votes we shouldn't bring it up," so this was really good news for us.

RUSH: Yeah, well, sorry, Senator Schumer, but this is all a joke. This is all a lie, too. The whole plan is going to be a public option and they're going to ram it through, as I explained in the first hour. If they can get it done by next week, fine. If they can't they'll get it down by October 12th. Harry Reid has now canceled the October recess, the Columbus Day recess, to focus to health care. He canceled the Senate's Columbus Day recess so that lawmakers can focus on passing health care reform during the week of October 12th. Now, if they can get it done next week and take their recess, they will. You're even hearing people saying, "They can't get it done before the end of the year. They're not going to get done by Thanksgiving, by Christmas. They can't do it at all." They're going to get it done before that, and they're going to get it done in scheming ways that I detailed in the first hour.

What Do You Tell Military Families with Loved Ones in Afghanistan?

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: March of 2008, then we'll get to the phones. In March of 2008, Hillary Clinton ran an ad, a Hillary for President ad -- and the ad has been scrubbed from her website.  There is no YouTube version of it.  It has been taken down.  You cannot find it anywhere.  But I have the transcript of the ad, a little 30-second ad, and this was it.  The announcer opens by saying, "Barack Obama says he has the judgment to be president.  But as chairman of an oversight committee charged with the force of fighting Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, he was too busy running for president to hold even one hearing."  Then they have Obama actually saying, "I've (unintelligible) chairman, this committee, beginning campaign, 2007, so, yeah, it's true. We have not had one oversight hearing on Afghanistan."  He never did conduct a hearing.  The announcer comes back and says, "Hillary Clinton will never be too busy to defend our national security, bringing our troops home from Iraq, and pursuing Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan," and he closes with the, "I am Hillary Clinton and I approved this message."  You can't find the ad on YouTube.  It's been scrubbed from her website.  Don't forget, she was given $20 million to help retire her campaign fund. That will buy a lot of cooperation.  Mrs. Clinton -- Mrs. Clinton, of all people -- warned us of this.  This is smack-dab in the middle of Operation Chaos, by the way, March of 2008.  To the phones we go, Sarah in Las Vegas. You're first.  It's great to have you with us today.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  I have... I'm a little nervous. So I got a 19-year-old grandson in the army and he's supposed to deploy to Afghanistan in June of next year. (choking up) He wants to go, but I'm very nervous about it with and I just wonder what you think Obama's going to do about that kid.

RUSH:  You know, we took a call from a distressed mother in Texas, I think it was last week. She had the same identical circumstance, other than her son is going before next June.  I must tell you: I really feel for you.  I don't know... If I had a son that wanted to go... I'm thinking about, you know, the troops that are there, I'm thinking, "What must they think? What is their morale?"  Their commander has asked for more troops otherwise the whole thing may go down the tubes and the guy is flying off to Denmark on a Chicago Olympics bid. He's on television all over the place talking about health care.  He's putting the decision off pending a "strategy review."  Meanwhile, the North Koreans and the Iranians are launching test missiles, and they send this doofus Gibbs, the White House press secretary out there, to give a statement.  Gibbs is saying "Iran must demonstrate it will give up weapons program."  The world doesn't care what Gibbs says!  The world wants to hear what Obama says about it, but Obama is too busy trying to get the Olympics in Chicago and who the hell knows what else.  Sarah --

CALLER:  Right.

RUSH:  -- I -- I -- (sigh)

CALLER:  You know to choose --

RUSH:  The fact is, I don't know what Obama is going to do in Afghanistan.  All I can tell you is that he has said -- I need this quote.  I think we had it as an audio sound bite.  Certainly we can find the text of the quote.  He said he's troubled with the whole concept of victory in Afghanistan.  It reminded him of how humiliating it must have been for the Japanese to sign the surrender treaty in World War II aboard the USS Missouri.  I read that and I was aghast.  I think if you listen to what the man said at the UN, he doesn't believe in victory.

CALLER:  Well, to die for a noble cause is a noble thing. I believe that.  But to go over there with you don't even care if there's a victory, it's pathetic.  I'm just sick and tired of it.

RUSH:  Look, I understand. To quote former president, "I feel your pain."  I mean I really do.  You've had this man speak at the United Nations last week that we're all equal here. There's no nation any better than any others. The days of us being a superpower essentially are finished.

CALLER:  Well, Netanyahu, to me, his speech was just off the charts.  I was actually crying when he was giving his speech.  It was so moving.  And our president got up and apologized for America, which I believe is the greatest country on earth.  But there's nothing wrong with being great.  But that's not what we're hearing coming out of Washington.

RUSH:  No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.  I can't emphasize this enough.  In the world of Barack Obama the things that made us great are unjust and immoral and are examples of imperialism.

CALLER:  True.

RUSH:  Do you realize, look at what he said to the United Nations.  "To those of you that think my country can't change I ask you simply look at the last eight months."  I mean, that is a dangerous --

CALLER:  I know.

RUSH:  -- dangerous self-absorption.

CALLER:  I know.  You know, and I have a grandson that's got to go. You know, I have a vested interest in this.  Which I always have had, but it's very personal now.  So I just hope he makes the right decision.

RUSH:  You know what, I understand you're saying it's personal but for all of us, it is.  This is our country.

CALLER:  Exactly.

RUSH:  It's your son, but your son's ours when --

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  -- your son goes to battle.

CALLER:  Exactly.

RUSH:  Everybody's son is ours.

CALLER:  And I have met so many at his graduation from basic training. He just went through Air Assault School.  I've met so many young men that want to do what they're doing.

RUSH:  They all do.  They volunteer.

CALLER:  For me, enrollment is like... You know, that would be the last thing that I would want to do.  But I just am so thankful for young men and women who want to do this.

RUSH:  So are we all, and that's why we get angry, upset, when we see them be undercut.  And remember, this is not new.  For the last five years, Obama and his party single-handedly fought for their defeat in Iraq. They single-handedly fought for it, tried to demoralize the troops, excused them of rape and murder with no evidence whatsoever.  In the world of Barack Obama, the United States is the problem.  He, in his warped ego, is the solution.  And that's undeniable, and that's where we are. That's who we elected.  God bless, Sarah.  I'm confident that America has not changed as Obama believes it has or wants to make it change, and that this can be beat back.  If I didn't think that, I'd chuck it.  And I'd spend the rest of my days making sure the last check I wrote bounced.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Here it is.  It was from July 29th of this year.  Obama was giving a TV interview with ABC News, and here's the ABC News report: "'Obama: "Victory" Not Necessarily Goal in Afghanistan' --  President Obama has put securing Afghanistan near the top of his foreign policy agenda, but "victory" in the war-torn country isn't necessarily the United States' goal, he said Thursday in a TV interview. 'I'm always worried about using the word "victory," because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur,' Obama told ABC News. 'We're not dealing with nation states at this point. We're concerned with al-Qaeda and the Taliban, al-Qaeda's allies,' he said. 'So when you have a non-state actor, a shadowy operation like al-Qaeda, our goal is to make sure they can't attack the United States.'"

I don't know that victory is what we're looking for there, and yet July 15th of 2008, Associated Press, "Contending that the US is not pursuing a sound strategy for keeping Americans safe, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Tuesday that fighting al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan would be his top priority after ending the war in Iraq. 'This is a war that we have to win,' Obama said in remarks prepared for delivery at the International Trade Center in Washington." So July 15th, 2008, this is a war we have to win.  July 29th, 2009, "I'm always worried about using the word 'victory' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a --" I don't think it was Emperor Hirohito, was it?  Anyway, just more evidence Obama talked one way during the campaign and it was not true.  He is governing as who he really is.

BREAK TRANSCIRPT

RUSH: I want you to hear this before we go to the break.  ABC's Nightline, July 23rd, 2009, Terry Moran asked Obama, "Define victory in Afghanistan, or maybe that's not the right word."

OBAMA:  I'm always, you know, worried about using the word "victory" because, you know, it evokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur.  You know, we're not dealing with nation states at this point.  We're concerned with al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

RUSH:  All right, that's it.  That sets it up.  I don't want to hear him mispronounce "Taliban."  Those words there:  "Victory, I'm always worried about using the word 'victory'."  And besides, I was right, Hirohito did not come down from the hills and sign the surrender papers.

RUSH: Karen in western Michigan, welcome to the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Thank you, Rush.

RUSH: Yes?

CALLER:  I am a mother of a soldier who deployed to Afghanistan the end of July, the Fifth Brigade's 2nd Infantry Division, and I thank you for all the good comments you've been making today about the policy of Barack Obama in the Mideast and throughout the world.  I had one more point that concerns me, and that is that Iranian missiles are able to reach our bases in Afghanistan and Iraq, and I'm concerned for my son and the other soldiers.

RUSH:  Yes. Ours is a world governed by the aggressive use of force.  You are now, I don't know, the third or fourth call from a parent of a member of the US military.  And I totally (sigh) totally understand the emotion you have about this.  This is really unprecedented.  I think the closest we could probably come to this was the latter stages of the Vietnam War -- and then, of course, we had the draft. These people are all volunteering.  Speaking of the draft, isn't it about time for that?  I mean, you know, Charlie Rangel was always trying to embarrass President Bush by suggesting we needed a draft. (interruption) Yeah.  I know Chuck Rangel is busy trying to find more millions of hidden dollars he hasn't reported to the IRS.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Do you people remember all during the war in Iraq...? Do you remember the State-Controlled Media, the Drive-Bys and the Democrats all complaining that they didn't have the right body armor and the Humvees were not armored properly? Remember all of the unmitigated hell that George Bush got from the Democrats in the media that he didn't care about the soldiers.  And now we have a president who cannot decide even if he wants to win a war in Afghanistan.  Now, which is more dangerous?  One could be fixed, and it was.  The other is a personality flaw that is unfixable and deadly -- and that would be Obama.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Candace in Clarksville, Tennessee, glad you called, great to have you here.  Hello.

CALLER:  Mega mega dittos, Rush.

RUSH:  Thank you.

CALLER:  I am concerned because my husband is in the military and he will be deploying next spring for the third time.  I want the president to be concerned enough about the war to talk to his commanders more than once in 70 days.  And what is he doing, Rush?  He's trying to make sure that the Olympics are going to be in Chicago in 2016.  And all I have to say to any liberals listening out there is that Iran did not test fire any missiles while Bush was in office because Bush practiced peace through strength.  And this stuff has me scared, Rush, it really does.

RUSH:  By the way, do you know it's not a coincidence that today is the day the Iranians fired the nukes.  It's Yom Kippur, a Jewish holiday.

CALLER:  Okay.

RUSH:  And those missiles and their test firing are among other things to determine how far along they are at being able to target those missiles at Israel.  So it's not an accident.  That's a very good observation.  They didn't launch any of this stuff during the Bush years.  The Norks did, but the Iranians didn't.  Do you remember what Biden said during the campaign? (paraphrasing) "We're going to be tested, Obama is going to be tested, Barack is going to be tested, the first six months going to be tested, and we're going to have a real problem on our hands, and you're not going to understand, you're not going to appreciate our response to it, and we're begging you to hang in with us."  Do you remember him saying that?

CALLER:  Yes, I do.

RUSH:  Well, I don't know if this is it or if it's yet to come.  But we've got a pretty good idea why Biden thinks we're not going to hang in with him.  More and more people like you, you're the fourth or fifth call now since last week about this, military member family worried about the commitment of the commander-in-chief when your husband or son or daughter is heading off to the theater of battle.  Let me ask you a question.  Is your real concern, is your concern really based on whether or not this president will defend the country or will give your husband in this case all the tools necessary to win?

CALLER:  I'm concerned on both.  I want him to give the commanders the tools necessary that they need to win this war, and Obama has shown no interest whatsoever in winning this war.  I mean I just want them to have the support that they need over there.  I really do.  I want them to win.  I want them to fight to win, and I have no confidence in this administration, I'm sorry, I just don't.

RUSH:  Amen.  Join the club.  More and more people have that same sentiment.  It's a dawn of reality coming up and more and more people are glaring at it, not happy with what they see.

David in St. Louis, glad you called.  Welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER:  Thank you, first-time caller. I got a question for you.  I'm a union guy from St. Louis, been a military reservist for over 20 years, son on active duty, another son getting ready to go into the Army.  I pop open my St. Louis Post-Dispatch this weekend and what do I read?  A $20 million earmark for the Kennedy Institute out of a $360 billion defense budget that was snuck in there by Senator John Kerry.  Has anybody beside myself called and been alarmed by this idea?

RUSH:  I'm glad you reminded me.  I saw that over the weekend, or maybe it was today I looked at it.  Yeah, $20 million in there for a memorial, in essence, to Teddy Kennedy in the defense bill, defense appropriations bill.

CALLER:  Yeah, they say it's going to be for the library to house the papers for a billionaire family and they say this will only cover 40% of the institute's initial fundraising.

RUSH:  Well, we gotta have some sympathy for the Kennedys.  They may be a billionaire family but they got about 1,500 sponges soaking it up who still haven't figured out how to get a real job.

CALLER:  Another question for you.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  Did you see 60 Minutes last night?

RUSH:  Yeah, I saw the audio.  I don't watch the show anymore.  It's called the National Football League on Sundays for me.

CALLER:  Well, another thing that caught my attention as a military family --

RUSH:  Quickly, very quickly.

CALLER:  Okay, the general said he's only talked to the president one time since he's been in office.  To me that's stunning.

RUSH:  Yep, one time in 70 days.  One time.  With all the high-tech Obama has, only one time.  But you gotta understand, now, he's gotta go get the Olympics for Chicago in 2016, he's been talking to Mayor Daley a lot, and Obama has his priorities, people need to understand.

Rush Limbaugh Quotes For Wednesday

Wednesday Quotes: Leader of the Opposition

"I feel like I'm in a James Bond movie. Ernst Stavro Blofeld has taken over the UN, the best spy that we have, me, is headed for the gulag, and Eric Holder holds the key."

"If I went to the United Nations and made a speech and Moammar Khadafy praised it, I'd really question myself."

"I would describe what Obama is doing to this country as basically a coup. It's just frightening. He talks about a New World Order, and the New World Order is him. Obama is bigger than his country, bigger than the presidency -- he is the world."

"So there's David Axelrod saying that the first obligation of the president is to keep the American people safe. No, the first obligation of this president is to make sure our enemies are not offended!"

"Israel, that poor, struggling little nation, surrounded by enemies, poses such a great threat to the innocent and harmless Palestinians -- people who put bombs on their four-year-olds and send them into crowds to die for Allah. And yet Israel is the problem to Obama."

"The purpose of a pre-interview is not to find out what you'd like to talk about; it's to find out what irritates you. I know this is true, so I purposely acted like I was being goaded so that the Leno people will ask me things I want to be asked. You can't trick old El Rushbo!"

"Moammar Khadafy also said that the swine flu is not a big threat, but that there is a coming fish flu. Now, this man is a kook. He is a literal freak. But here's the thing: he is inspired by Barack Obama."

"Early on in this program's existence, I said that I thought Amy Carter was the most unattractive presidential daughter, and my mother called me that night: 'You can't say that! People are not going to take you seriously! Besides, you forgot about Margaret Truman.' My mother was a natural comedian."

"I'm going to say this as often as I have to for it to sink in: Barack Hussein Obama is a man who has made no contribution whatsoever that has furthered this nation's advancement. Instead, he constantly tears down this country. He is disrespectful to the American people and all who have come before us."

"The purpose of the Clinton Global Initiative is babes. They gather in New York -- Clinton and his posse -- have their meetings in the daytime, and then they hit the town."

Obama Votes Present as Heroes Fight and Die at War in Afghanistan

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let's play audio sound bite number 16.  CNN's Anderson Cooper 180, with hardly any audience, which is why we're going to play this bite for you, spoke with the international correspondent at CNN, Michael Ware.  Cooper said, "Everybody seems to admit, look, there's no military solution, and yet politically there's hardly any civilians on the ground in a lot of these areas, and the Afghan government is riddled with corruption.  We're trying to bolster in these areas a government which has not represented its people."

WARE:  We're not at the point where we could lose this war.  This Taliban will continue to fight as long as US troops or foreign troops want to be there.  So the whole idea is to put enough military pressure on the Taliban war machine to parlay that pressure at the negotiating table or to bring a political solution.  Now, President Obama has to man up and decide: is he going to fight this war or is he going to oversee an American defeat.

RUSH:  A CNN reporter says to Obama, man up or lose Afghanistan?  Man up or lose?  Or is he going to oversee an American defeat?  What do you think the answer to the question is?  He's willing to oversee an American defeat.  He came out and said victory is an uncomfortable word in Afghanistan.  So, meanwhile, the general who Obama wants and who Obama appointed and who Obama got confirmed wants some more troops.  Mr. President, you are not a state senator from Illinois.  You are the commander-in-chief of the US military.  Do your job.  Drop the politics.  We got heroes on the battlefield giving their last full measure of devotion to this country and you're voting "present."  All because he doesn't want to upset the applecart, the precious balance in Congress on his health care bill -- well, on a health care bill because of the radical left.  And now The Politico is fascinated with who leaked this news that Obama's not gonna come up with the troops that the general wants, who leaked that the general wants the troops.  It's the funniest thing.  It's the most incredible story.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  President Obama wants more time to develop a new strategery in Afghanistan.  His general wants 40,000 more troops, otherwise the general says we and the allies run the risk of losing the war.  Would agreeing to 40,000 more troops jeopardize liberal support for Obamacare?  Stop and think about that.  The president of the United States is teetering; he's flirting with the actual concept of defeat in Afghanistan.  Forty thousand troops the general says makes the difference.  Forty thousand troops in one hand or losing or jeopardizing support of liberals for Obamacare in Congress.  What does this tell you about the man?  These are the domestic political questions that haunt Barack Obama.  He's playing politics when he ought to be fighting and winning a war and acting like a commander-in-chief who gives a damn about his troops in the field.

He's playing golf, he's yucking it up with Letterman, he's got his stupid Health and Human Services secretary telling people how to sneeze on their sleeves. He's sitting on a report from his commanding general in Afghanistan that says we either boost troop numbers there or face the distinct possibility of defeat and he wants more time to study a new strategy.  He's doing nothing.  He has the reports.  He won't make a decision.  He's voting "present."  It's a dereliction of duty.  What are we going to do in Afghanistan?  I thought that was settled now.  Now it's not?  Afghanistan was the central theme, that's where we had to go, that's where we are gonna beat these guys, Taliban, Al-Qaeda.  Bush made a mistake, shoulda gone in there, wasted all this treasure, all these resources, now we're there and Obama is flirting with defeat, all to make certain his Obamacare is not jeopardized in the House.  This is what you get when the radical left runs every branch of the federal government.  He's on the golf course.  He's making jokes on Letterman, lame jokes at that.  And now he's spouting additional lies, threats, end of the world, we're all going to die, at a climate change conference, which is nothing more than a meeting of worldwide leftists who seek to implement a worldwide government that has control over every aspect of every person's life on this planet.  That's the endgame.

Now, this Afghanistan report, this is hilarious in The Politico today.  "Bob Woodward’s Monday-morning exclusive on a 66-page report from Gen. Stanley McChrystal to President Barack Obama about Afghanistan policy was a rite of passage for the new administration: the first major national security leak and a sure sign that the celebrated Washington Post reporter has penetrated yet another administration." So now the story is who leaked this?  Who did it, and why did they do it?  "The simplest theory -- and one most administration officials Monday were endorsing -- is that a military or civilian Pentagon official who supports McChrystal’s policy put it out in an attempt to pressure Obama to follow McChrystal’s suggestion and increase troop levels in Afghanistan. But not everyone in Washington is a believer in Occam’s razor, so all manner of other theories flourished.  There are believers in the reverse leak, in which the leak itself is meant to damage McChrystal’s position by inducing White House anger at the general. There’s the fake leak, in which the White House may have been trying to back itself into a corner."  They actually write this.  That the White House did this on purpose to back itself into a corner.

There were constant leaks during the Bush administration about Iraq war policy, and there was never this hand-wringing, "Why, who's doing this?  Why are they doing this?  Who wants to damage our beloved President Bush?"  Now, "Oh, no, the first major foreign policy leak.  Who's trying to do this and why?  For what purpose?  Could it be Obama leaked it himself to back himself into a corner?"  It actually says that!  Yeah.  He wants to back himself into a corner so he's got his buddies at CNN openly telling him to man up or risk losing the war in Afghanistan.  I totally believe, by the way, I totally believe the possibility that somebody in the White House leaked it to discredit McChrystal.  Remember, these guys, the left, the far left, they don't like a victorious America.  That's imperialism.  They love it when the US military loses.  Look at their efforts to secure defeat during the Iraq war.  They're all about the American military being humbled and being defeated.  So it's entirely possible to me that somebody would leak this to make McChrystal look bad as a way of damaging him and making Obama look good to the left as he's trying to do by not caring about defeat or victory in military conflict.

RUSH: We'll go to Hilliard, Florida, and Roger, thank you for calling, sir, and welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER:  Hello, Rush, how are you?

RUSH:  I'm very well.  Thanks much.

CALLER:  It's a pleasure to talk to you.

RUSH:  Yes.

CALLER:  I think basically what's happened there is the White House didn't leak a thing.  It was the general himself or one of his staff members to be sure that Obama wasn't gonna sit on his glutes, because he considers Afghanistan a distraction right now.

RUSH:  Well, it's possible.  I'll tell you what's fascinating to me about this is that all during, even Watergate, let's go back to the number one leaker was Deep Throat, and nobody cared what his motivation was, because they all knew he was out to destroy Nixon, which was fine, that was cool.  They all focused on the substance of what Deep Throat had to say.  You know what Deep Throat really was?  I'll tell you the real lesson that nobody draws, the correct lesson that nobody draws from Deep Throat.  Deep Throat was not so much bringing down a president, although he did.  What Deep Throat was doing was actually manipulating and controlling media, and he showed how easy it was to do it.  Woodward and Bernstein, of course, had these great journalistic reputations as the two kings of investigative journalism, they are the models, they're what's taught in journalism school.  But Deep Throat manipulated those guys.  He had 'em going everywhere he wanted them to go.  They found out nothing on their own, or very little, other than what he led them to or fed them.  The real lesson of Deep Throat is how leakers can manipulate the media.

But in this case of the leak about the need for more troops in Afghanistan, the Drive-Bys are out there, "Who is doing this and what is their motivation, who is tampering with our beloved president?"  You want to hear some of the other theories about this?  "It’s most likely someone who has or is cultivating a personal relationship with Bob Woodward and positioning himself to look good in Woodward’s next book." So the leaker might just be engaging in that because he wants to be a star in Woodward's mind.  "'The Pentagon hasn’t changed and there are a lot of people within the Pentagon who understand the strategic use of the leak,' said Heather Hurlburt, executive director of the Democratic-leaning National Security Network. One possibility you have to look at is this being leaked by someone who is in league with the neocon assault on Obama, where anything short of 'all in' is framed as weak and a defeat."  So of all the theories three of the four are somebody's going to nail Obama, and the other theory is Obama is backing himself into a corner.

But here's the thing you have to remember.  Let's get back to the substance of this.  Not only was Afghanistan the war the liberals said we should fight, we are fighting it exactly the way they said we should and the way they wanted us to.  That is, we have given charge of the thing essentially to NATO and NATO is now screwing it up.  We have begged other countries to go in with us, and very few have.  And those who have only have sent trainers or medical or other support personnel.  Very few troops.  And now most of this wonderful multinational force are pulling out or threatening to.  We're fighting the war with both hands tied behind our backs.  We're not even allowed to attack the enemy near houses.  It's the left's dream war.  This is the prototype.  This is the way they wanted us to fight the war.  This is where they've taken us.  How could we possibly lose?  The world was asked to participate, a world body or a multinational body, NATO is running the show, not the United States.  We're going to capture Osama and we're going to kick butt and we're going to show that Bush was wrong to go into Iraq and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.  And we're on the verge of defeat, and Obama -- I told you yesterday I was in Coach Zorn's suite at the Redskins-Rams on Sunday, and he had as his guests, he and his wife, Joy, four handsome, young Marines who were being deployed soon.

They put a fifth buddy of theirs on the phone with me in Twentynine Palms, California.  Some of them are going to the hellhole areas of Afghanistan; some of them are going to Camp Lejeune.  These people volunteered.  They're out there defending and protecting the US Constitution and this government and the people of this country.  They're fighting for freedom.  We got this guy fighting the perfect war the way the left said we should do it and we're on the verge of defeat and the balance here is, "Oh, gosh, do I send 40,000 more troops and risk losing my base in the health care debate?  Or do I not send 40,000, lose in Afghanistan but get health care."  That's the question our commander-in-chief is asking himself.  Meanwhile, the media is obsessed with who leaked this and why are they out there trying to damage our beloved young president?  In the Washington Post, get this.  This is an editorial.  "Wavering on Afghanistan?"  That's the headline.  Now, get this subhead, Washington Post:  "President Obama seems to have forgotten his own arguments for a counterinsurgency campaign."

Obama forgot his position?  This is constructive criticism?  Obama seems to have forgotten his own arguments?  Why, yes, "It was only last March 27 that President Obama outlined in a major speech what he called 'a comprehensive new strategy for Afghanistan' that, he added, 'marks the conclusion of a careful policy review.' That strategy unambiguously stated that the United States would prevent the return of a Taliban government and 'enhance the military, governance and economic capacity' of the country. We strongly supported the president's conclusion that those goals were essential. … So it was a little startling to hear Mr. Obama suggest in several televised interviews on Sunday that he had second thoughts. 'We are in the process of working through that strategy,' he said on CNN.  'The first question is . . . are we pursuing the right strategy?' On NBC he said, 'if supporting the Afghan national government and building capacity for their army and securing certain provinces advances that strategy' of defeating al-Qaeda, 'then we'll move forward. But if it doesn't, then I'm not interested in just being in Afghanistan for the sake of being in Afghanistan.'"  By the way, I'm not thumping the table.  My arm is just hitting it.  Are you hearing it?  I'm not thumping the table.  I've been very good about this.

So basically we have incompetence on parade.  We have indecision on parade.  We have inexperience on parade.  We've got a man with a five-minute career who has no experience running anything but a bunch of community agitators and organizers now in charge of victory or defeat in Afghanistan, and he has forgotten, the Washington Post allows that he has forgotten his own argument.  Forgotten his own argument?  Not only is it naive, it is dangerously generous and will encourage more of this kind of indecision.  If the media says, "I guess he just forgot his policies, we're a little troubled by this but maybe he'll end up doing the right thing."  AP and USA Today: "Obama May Change Afghanistan Course Again."  Now, the headline suggests that Obama changed policy from Bush and has to change again.  "The White House is looking at expanding counterterror operations in Pakistan as an alternative to a major military escalation in Afghanistan."  Oh.  So I guess the March policy which Obama has forgotten according to the Washington Post is already a failure, so now we gotta go to a different policy, this one counterintelligence insurgencies in Pakistan.  They're going to branch out.  Don't forget, during the campaign, am I the only one that remembered this?  Obama said he'd nuke 'em over there, even if the Pakistani government didn't know about it.  He had to dial that back.  Folks, the man is a walking threat to this country as we've known it in every way possible: domestic, foreign policy.  This is incompetent boobism on parade.

RUSH: Elaine in Babylon, New York.  Thanks, and welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  How are you?

RUSH:  Just fine, thanks.

CALLER:  I wanted to go back to the leaking problem from the White House, if you might.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  I think it's obvious who's doing the leaking, I think it's the White House itself 'cause they can't come out and say, "America, what should we do?" because he's so indecisive that he has to try to -- it's a roundabout way of polling the public to see what the reaction will be.

RUSH:  So a trial balloon, put the --

CALLER:  Yeah.

RUSH:  -- leak out to see if the American people even care about Afghanistan?

CALLER:  Well, to see how mad the left is going to get, if they'll let him do it or not.

RUSH:  Well, it could be.  That's always a possibility.  But frankly, I think they already know.  I mean John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi last week and a couple others, some of the California congressional delegation, I think week or two before that, warned Obama, "If you ramp up troop levels, we may not pay for it.  No more expansion in Afghanistan."  That's what preceded it.  Now the leak comes, and it could be a trial balloon, who knows.  It's one of two things. Obama is trying to help his position of not expanding, sitting tight, rethinking the strategy, or the leak is to embarrass Obama and protect the military here.  People's lives are on the line.  We're not playing beanbag here.  We're not leaking about a proposed new piece of legislation on the snail darter.  Well, hell even if we do it we're going to ruin peoples lives, peoples lives in California being ruined because of attention to animals, the waters been shut off, the farmers in the Central Valley.  I mean it's crazy.  So, you know, the leak probably purposeful.  Well, no doubt it was purposeful.  The end result is still unknown.  Watching the media coverage is still what's laughable.  "Oh Obama forgot, apparently forgot his previous position on Afghanistan that he announced in March.  And maybe Obama's trying to back himself into a corner here by leaking his own indecision on what to do about whether or not we win."  How silly is all this?

RUSH: Daytona Beach, Florida.  This is Friend.  Great to have you with us.  Hello.

CALLER:  How you doing, Rush?  Thanks for having me on.

RUSH:  Very well, thank you.

CALLER:  I just want to make a quick point about this whole who sent the memo, why they sent the memo.  To me it's a nonissue.  And as a United States Army veteran, it outrages me that people see this situation, they see we need to 40,000 more troops, we need more supplies, and it's even a decision to them.  There is no decision.  Our general on the ground has said, "We may suffer a loss, we may fail this war effort if we do not get this support."  There's no issue.  There is no decision.  The only decision that needs to be made is what units get a phone call to start the duffel bag draft.

RUSH:  Wait a minute.  In the America you and I grew up in, in the America your parents, my parents and grandparents grew up in, of course, but that's not America right now.  This country's being led by people to whom victory in foreign conflict sometimes is a sin, sometimes it's imperialism.

CALLER: Ouch.

RUSH:  It is what it is.

CALLER:  It's infuriating though.

RUSH:  Bill Parcells used to say of a football team, "You are what you are.  If you're 4-12, you're 4-12," and there weren't any moral victories in there.  It is what it is.  Obama has got a request from the general on the ground, "40,000 troops or I don't think we can win this."  And Obama, "Well, let me reexamine the strategy," and worry about the left-wing base voting on his domestic policy.  He's dialing back our nuke arsenal; he withdrew the missile shield that was going to be placed in Europe to defend the Czech Republic in Poland; he's making deals with Russia; he's propping up dictatorships in Central and South America.  It is what it is, Friend.

CALLER:  I agree with you a hundred percent, and it infuriates the heck out of me like you don't even know, Rush.

RUSH:  I think it infuriates the heck out of millions of Americans that we don't yet know are infuriated because nobody's covering them, nobody's talking about them.  We still get these mythical polls where Obama is 54% approval or 52% approval.  I don't believe it's anywhere near that high.  I think people are shocked, I think people are outraged.  When Biden speaks up and says, "If we lose 35 seats in the house in 2010, that's the end of the road for what Barack and I have planned."  They know.  They were counting on ACORN to be the balance in fraudulent elections, and now ACORN's been exposed.  I mean they know the problem that they're in.  And yet their arrogance is such, it's not going to take 'em off their game at all.  They're going to ram whatever they want down our throats whether we want it or not because that's who they are.  Now, you couldn't have said it better.  There's no question.  The general says we need 40,000 troops or we lose.  Okay.  But remember, for the first time in my lifetime -- maybe not in the country's history, I don't know, I haven't been alive for the entire 200-plus years -- but in my lifetime I have never seen a political party spend years trying to secure defeat in a military conflict like the Democrats did in Iraq.

CALLER:  Absolutely.

RUSH:  So it shouldn't surprise you at all that now that they're running the show, that victory is not a big deal.  Remember Obama said in Afghanistan the whole concept of victory troubles him.

CALLER:  Yeah, but up until now was we need to get out of Iraq because Afghanistan's the big issue and now it looks like Obama wants to turn tail and run from that and I'm red, white, and blue to the bone.  And we don't run.  And a president that lets us run and secures a defeat in Afghanistan, whew, I feel sorry for his chances coming up in 2012.

RUSH:  (laughing)  Well, we don't have time to wait 'til 2012.  We gotta rebound in 2010 in the midterm congressional elections.

Robert in Staten Island, I'm glad you waited, sir.  You're next on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  How are you?

RUSH:  Good.

CALLER:  Listen, I have a dilemma, a parent dilemma.  So here I am, my son has joined the military, and I was an ex-Marine -- well, former Marine, never an ex-Marine.  I was all for it, you know, I think it would be good for him.  But right now I feel like they're going to do to these boys what they did to them in Vietnam, and the same party that was in charge then is in charge now, and I just see that there's 55,000 American boys died in vain over there because of their shenanigans that they told over there, and I see history repeating itself and as a father I don't know what to tell my son.  It's like, I'm proud of him, but I'm like, "Rob, you sure you want to do this at this point in time?"  I don't know what to do.  It's really bothering me inside as a very patriotic person.

RUSH:  I'm sure that probably a lot of military families with family members en route or already in Afghanistan or scratching their heads over this and saying, "Well, if we're not going to have the backing of the commander-in-chief, you know, is it worth it?"  I think, frankly, a lot of people are asking that question about Obama on everything.  Is this worth it?  Is the historical relevance of this president, the first black president worth all this?  Because clearly there are designs on the traditions and institutions that have defined this country's greatness and one of those is the United States military.  I think this is even worse than Vietnam.  In Vietnam they were trying to win, they were bumbling around, they were incompetent micromanaging everything, but even when we did win, we let Walter Klondike talk us out of it.  In this situation I don't think there's even any pretense of trying to win.

In fact, I think Obama ramped up Afghanistan simply to follow through on what he was talking about during the campaign:  ripping Bush, ripping the surge, ripping Iraq.  "Well, it's a bad move, we need to have focusing on Afghanistan, that's where we need to go.  We need to capture Osama, and that's where we need to go."  Okay, so put some troops in there, announce a big, bold policy, appoint a new general, and this is the left's dream war.  You got NATO running things, you've got a few other nations participating, we've got rules of engagement that penalize our own troops, can't hit the enemy if they're in houses and so forth.  It's a perfect war, and what does it get us?  It gets us on the brink of defeat.  So it's just another in a long line of illustrations of what happens when these people end up in charge.

Steven in New Orleans, you're next on the EIB Network.  Hello, sir.

CALLER:  Rush, what an honor.  I'm listening to all this and I can't believe we've got the general on the ground asking for more troops, and they're doing the two step, the Potomac Two Step.  I mean if they're not going to send them why don't we get them the hell out of there?  That's pretty much my comment.

RUSH:  But that's a mistake, too.  I know what you're saying.  If we're not going to win, get out of there.  By the way, there are a lot of people who look at Afghanistan as the place empires die.  A lot of people think Afghanistan is the armpit of the world and is not worth going in there.  "Well, look, the Soviet Red Army, the only place they ever lost was in Afghanistan, we're going to lose, we need to get out of there, Rush." I get e-mails from people like this all the time, "We're going to get mired in there, we're going to lose, we're going to ruin our empire."  We are not the Soviet Union.  Well, we may be closer to it than we ever thought we would be.  But traditionally, you know, this is the United States of America.  We don't lose.  But this is certainly not how you engage in war.  If you show up, you don't cut tail and run.  That's not who we are, that's not what we are, and that's not who we've been.

So it's a little late to say, "Well, if we're not going to win let's get out."  That's, to me, not the question.  Unfortunately, it is with this administration.  But it's the wrong question.  Can you actually believe that we're discussing whether or not we can win?  I mean who are the enemy, who are we fighting?  Al-Qaeda?  The Taliban?  9/11 ring a bell?  We just had this big terror bust in New York.  They're still out there.  They're plotting future attacks.  That's who we're fighting.  Oh, we're going to quit?  We're going to pull back so we can do health care, and so we can do global warming cap and tax, and so we can do all this other rigmarole, nonsensical left-wing radical crap that is not at all what it pretends to be.  It's just the opposite.  It's a crying shame.  It is a crying shame what is happening to this country under the leadership of these boobs.

RUSH:  I have an idea, I have a way that Obama can maybe pull his... out of the fire on this Afghanistan thing.  Rather than call a troop buildup a surge, call it a stimulus.  Maybe that will fly with people.

Climate change...To say human being can destroy the earth is not even true. Or the fact that we breath so-called  "carbon footprints" that we are destroying the earth. If that was true the earth would of been destroyed long ago. Global Warming is a hoax, it's just another way government will try to get power and control over our lives.

Honduras on Edge After Ousted President Slips Back Into Country

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/54341

This is the type of people Obama supports, he was a dictator ousted out of office when he tried to stay in it, when his term was up. So the Honduras government ousted him. And somehow he got back into the country and wants to get the power he had when he was the president. Chavez wants to invade Honduras and we got the dictators of the world saying Zelaya should be restored to president, a dictator. This guy wants to rule and have power and control over these people and his term was up he refused to go so there congress kicked him out of the country.

Zelaya should be Imprisoned for the rest of his life.

Governor Romney's address to the 2009 Values Voters Summit

Sep 19, 2009

Thank you all very much. Tony, I appreciate your very kind words. And my thanks to all of you for the warm welcome. It’s good to see so many friends and leaders of the conservative movement from across America.
A year ago, there were quite a few people who were ready to write off this movement. They were enthralled by Barack Obama’s promise of near-Biblical transformations. Their legs were tingling.
He spoke majestically, framed by Greek columns. Well, he can still spin a speech, but he can’t spin his record. I’ll bet you never dreamed you’d look back at Jimmy Carter as the good old days.

I’ve had the pleasure of attending the Values Voters summit every year since 2004. I know that what brings us together is our allegiance to important and enduring values: the security of our country … the defense of freedom in the world … the success of our free enterprise system … and the fundamental rights of every person, including the right to life itself – these causes unite us…and they inspire us for the work ahead.

We know that America has always endured a chorus of critics, —people who claim that every ill, every failure in the world is America's fault.
But it has never before had a President who was conducting that chorus.
He told an Arab TV station that America has dictated to other nations. No, Mr. President, America has freed other nations from dictators. He told the Europeans that America has been arrogant, dismissive and derisive. No, Mr. President, in defending liberty, America has been diligent, dedicated and decisive.

Sure, when an American president journeys abroad, it’s always nice to see him applauded and praised. But when the price for that adoration is one apology after another for alleged offenses by the United States of America, it’s not worth it. Frankly, I’d rather see a president greeted abroad by complete silence, as long as he is defending our country’s character and not playing to our country’s critics!

These are times that call for a strong America.

China is on track to become the largest economy in the world. Russia under Putin is edging back to its old totalitarian ways, killing journalists, harassing political enemies, and invading a sovereign neighbor. Jihadists murder and threaten innocent people in nations around the world, and plot to attack us here at home.
The regime in North Korea sacrifices its own people to serve its nuclear ambitions. The regime in Iran, too, is moving fast to develop a nuclear weapon. And all the while, our economy is reeling and our debts are mounting.

Let me say it again: these are times that call for a strong America.

We know the source of America’s strength.
It is the citizens of this country, and all that a free people can achieve.
Free, hard working, family oriented, risk taking, opportunity-seeking, patriotic American people have always been the source of our strength, and they always will be.

And here in Washington, the best policies are those that expand their freedoms, broaden their opportunities, allow them to keep more of what they earn, afford them better education, let them choose their own healthcare, and turn loose the free enterprise system to create more jobs.

What President Obama has done these last eight months, and what he is proposing for the next three years, would not strengthen America, it would weaken America. His so-called stimulus is a case in point. The President sold it as an immediate boost that would hold unemployment below eight percent, restore the economy and create jobs. Rather than bring back the economy, it brought back 30 years of failed liberal programs. And he rushed it through before anyone could even notice. But we did notice, and we’re not impressed!

The economy is still shrinking even as the government keeps growing. Unemployment blew past eight percent to nearly 10 percent – that’s millions and millions more Americans out of work.
Not one new job has been created. The numbers of Americans opposing the Obama agenda are growing. The voters will make that clear in the 2010 elections. Now that’s a “public option” I agree with.

The President’s spending and borrowing has also weakened the nation.
In the month of July alone, he added 330 billion dollars to the deficit. His plan is to add another trillion dollars in debt every year he is in office. He initially admitted that the cumulative deficit would swell by seven trillion dollars over the next ten years, but now he acknowledges that nine trillion is more like it.
He would double our national debt in just five years. These deficits, combined with our liabilities for entitlements, threaten to cause a global collapse of confidence in America and in the dollar, and to precipitate an even deeper financial crisis.

Putting such a spirit-crushing, back-breaking debt burden on our children is unworthy of our national character. That is why I believe that this spending and borrowing is not just economically irresponsible, it is morally wrong!

To strengthen the economy and to create jobs, the President must stop trying to borrow this country out of a debt problem. I know there are people who are now talking about another stimulus bill for the economy. That’s the wrong answer. The right answer is to fix the stimulus we have—throw out the liberal, big-government programs and substitute incentives that will stimulate the private sector and actually create jobs. Don’t repeat the stimulus, repair the stimulus!

Taking more money away from working Americans would make us a weaker nation. Candidate Obama promised not to raise taxes—“by one dime”—on people making less than 250 thousand dollars a year. The President’s cap and trade program demolished that promise. The Obama team had secretly calculated that his plan would cost the average American family $1,761 a year, the equivalent to a 15% income tax hike. It kills jobs. And because it will simply move greenhouse gas emitters from America to other nations like China, it won’t do a thing to affect climate change. Democrats keep talking about climate change.
I think they’re confusing global warming with all the heat they’ve been taking at town halls.

I think we can all agree that it is a good idea to reform healthcare. Healthier Americans will make a stronger nation. Insurance companies shouldn’t drop people when they get sick.
We need to help people with pre-existing conditions. I think insurance should be portable and affordable. Republicans have proposed several healthcare reform bills. And this Republican worked to reform healthcare in my own state. Not every feature of our plan is perfect, but the lesson it teaches is this:
We can get everyone insured, without breaking the bank and without a government option—there is no government insurance in my Massachusetts reform. The right answer for health care is not more government, it’s less government.

President Obama says he wants “public option government insurance,” to give people “greater choice.” But what he doesn’t tell you is that there are more than a thousand insurance companies.

He says he wants an option that doesn’t have the burden of corporate profits. But what he doesn’t tell you is that there are plenty of major insurance companies that are not-for-profit.

He says he’d be satisfied with co-ops. But what he doesn’t tell you is that there are already co-ops and no legislation is needed to form more of them.

What he won’t say is what he really wants: a public option that over time becomes the only option. And if he gets what he wants, we know exactly where it would inevitably lead: to an entitlement with massive liability, to more borrowing, to denial of care or rationing just as they experience in Europe, and to the creation of dozens of government bureaucracies reaching into every hospital, every doctor’s office and every home. He’s not going to get his way, thanks to millions of Americas who have stepped up in town halls and tea parties across the country.
The Democrats call them a mob, crazies, trash—
I call them patriots.

I for one was not unhappy that the President chose to address our schoolchildren. The Heritage Foundation, in a January letter to the President, reminded him that he is in a unique position to help our children keep from making a critical and life-altering mistake. And that is having children before they are married. Forty percent of all children are now born out-of-wedlock. Of course, there are wonderful single parents who do a heroic job raising children in difficult circumstances.
But for the nation as a whole, we raise a stronger generation when they are raised by a Mom and a Dad.

A strong America depends on a strong defense. Rivals are pursuing designs and purposes very different from our own. We must never cut corners in funding and equipping the military and the intelligence services that defend our country. More than 150,000 of our people in uniform are still deployed in theaters of war. Nothing on the agenda of the President or Congress must come before the needs of our troops and the absolute necessity of their victory.

In the face of Iran’s rush to become a nuclear power, the President’s decision this week to walk away from our commitment to missile defense in Europe is alarming and dangerous. They say that Iran isn’t as close to becoming a nuclear threat as they once thought.
How can they possibly know that? They say this is a token of goodwill for Russia to get them to support sanctions on Iran. But the first rule of negotiation is this: only give something away when you get something.

From Israel, to Honduras, to the Czech Republic and Poland, it’s time the President treated our friends better than he does our foes.

We need to urge
pro-defense members of Congress – Democrats and Republicans alike – to hold firm, and to make the case for a military that is second to none. Those pro-defense congressmen and senators might feel outnumbered right now. But they shouldn’t lose hope, because we’re going to send them some reinforcements in next year’s election.

We’ve now gone eight years and eight days without being hit again at home. And over on the Left, they want very hard for us to believe that this fact has nothing whatever to do with the intensive interrogation of terrorists. You could listen all day long to the outpourings of the far left and never hear that obvious connection.

The administration plays right along. And now they’re actually talking about prosecuting the very intelligence officers who protected us by asking questions and getting answers. These intelligence officers don’t deserve to be hounded and lectured by the Left wing – they deserve the respect and thanks of every American, starting with the commander in chief.

We’re at a critical time in our nation’s history. America must not lose faith in the values and virtues that made the American way of life possible.
We must not allow big government activists to exploit the financial crisis that they themselves unknowingly enabled – to substitute their ideology for the wisdom and good sense of the American people.

There’s something else that should concern us when the federal government expands at such a rate. When government is trying to take over health care, buying car companies, bailing out banks, and giving half the White House staff the title of czar – we have every good reason to be alarmed and to speak our mind!

The current economic crisis was the result of many failures. Important guardrails were allowed to collapse, leaving many Americans unprotected from the descent of the financial and job markets. The last thing we need now is a collapse of even more guardrails, leaving us unprotected from the overreach of government.

Let me make a prediction, for our cause, and for all those who speak for it with no apology, we're about to see a comeback.
Voters in New Jersey have just about had it with the high-taxers in charge of their state. And just across the Potomac River, the signs are good that we’re about to see a low-tax,
pro-growth, pro-life governor of Virginia.

Nothing is certain in politics, but we can be certain about this: our belief in the greatness of America and our dedication to keeping this nation strong are needed today as much as they have ever been needed in our past.

I don’t deny that America’s challenges are great, or that overcoming them will require the best that we have to give.
But I know as well that times of difficulty always bring out the essential character of our fellow citizens. When I was a boy, my dad used to say that the pursuit of the difficult makes you strong. Well, the pursuit of the difficult will make America strong. We welcome the challenge. It will call on us, once again, to draw on the incredible resilience, ingenuity, and faith of the free men and women of the United States.

We don’t get to choose the tests and trials ahead. But we’re entirely free, you and I, to choose how we will meet those tests. We will meet them as conservatives have done before. We will find strength in each other, and answer our opponents with good will and honest words.

And we will go forward – committed to our ideals, confident of victories to come, and certain that God does indeed bless America.

Thank you.
